KolorFitz™ — Reducing color risk in acrylic sheet product sampling

Context
A petrochemical manufacturer producing acrylic sheets needed to provide paper-based color samples for commercial and technical validation. The challenge was critical: color perception had to remain consistent across materials, lighting conditions, and production batches.

Challenge
Color translation from acrylic to printed paper introduced significant risk due to metamerism—leading to inconsistent perception, internal disagreement, and potential commercial misalignment. Existing color selection processes relied heavily on subjective judgment and fragmented data.

Approach
Over a three-year collaboration involving the manufacturer and a specialized print service, I led the development and application of KolorFitz™, an objective color-fit methodology designed to support decision-making across complex environments.

The process integrated three complementary inputs:

  • Voice of Business (VoB) — strategic and industrial constraints

  • Voice of Market (VoM) — competitive and contextual benchmarks

  • Voice of Customer (VoC) — perceptual and user-facing expectations

These inputs were weighted and filtered through a structured framework to reduce bias and align stakeholders before physical validation.

Prototyping & Validation
Extensive print prototyping was conducted to address metameric behavior across lighting conditions and substrates. The process achieved up to 97% color accuracy, even for complex tones, enabling reliable paper samples that faithfully represented acrylic products.

Outcome

  • Significant reduction in color-related decision risk

  • Improved alignment between technical, commercial, and marketing teams

  • A repeatable methodology for future product ranges and environments

KolorFitz™ transformed color from a subjective debate into a defensible, data-informed decision process.
