Rol

Rol is an exploratory study focused on adaptive use and the behavior of reclaimed materials in functional objects.

The project investigated how a single structure could support multiple use scenarios—ranging from low-height work surfaces to domestic display—without introducing mechanical complexity.

The object was developed using reclaimed wooden planks sourced from a dismantled entrance portal. Two surface treatments were explored in parallel:

  • a sanded and polished finish to evaluate durability, tactility, and maintenance

  • a raw finish to observe wear patterns and perception over time

The study focused on:

  • functional versatility under minimal structural variation

  • user interaction across different contexts and heights

  • the impact of surface treatment on perception, longevity, and use

Rol is presented as applied research into reuse, adaptability, and material decision-making rather than a finished product.
